Where Do I Begin?

Newcomers to our school may find that they have many questions.  A good place to begin is by reading our Frequently Asked Questions

Visiting the school: One of the best ways to get started in our school is to come and visit us!  We welcome visitors any time.  Group classes and private lessons are open and you do not have to make arrangements in advance.  Our only request is that you observe quietly and don't disturb classes or lessons in progress.  If you contact our Administrator prior to your visit, we will arrange for one of our Suzuki parents to meet you and help direct you to the classes or lessons that you would like to observe.

Young children age 3 - 5 yrs. old:  If your child is young and you are interested in having them learn to play the violin, a good way to get started is by enrolling your child in Keyboard and Kodaly classes.  These classes, taught by Adrien McGuire, are fun and provide beginning skills that prepare young children for some of the difficult skills required to play the violin.  Young children often do not have the ability to focus for long periods of time, so Kodaly and Keyboard classes are well suited to the young, enthusiastic, budding musician.  You may register for these classes separately, without paying full violin student tuition.

Children 6 yrs. of age and older:  Children who are in this age range have a greater ability to focus on a complex task, and so you may choose to begin them on the violin right away.  Your child may be enrolled with full tuition based on the length of time (minutes) that you select for their private lesson. See the Registration Form in the How to Register section of our website for tuition amounts.

The full student tuition covers the weekly private lesson, a weekly violin group class, plus a weekly Kodaly or music reading class, depending upon the skill level of the child.  The school administrator will give you a list of private teachers who have available lesson times, and then you may observe those teachers to select one that best fits your family.  Group class schedules are posted in the Schedule section of our website.  For information on acquiring a violin, please see the Frequently Asked Questions of our website.
