Suzuki Parent Orientation Class -  Attendance is mandatory of the Suzuki parent during the first 10-week quarter that your child is enrolled in the school.  Participation is also encouraged for parents whose children are already enrolled in the school. The Parent Orientation class is our way of helping every family that enrolls in our school to have a greater chance for success with the Suzuki Method of instruction.   Taught by several of our teachers, this 2-hour course includes suggested readings about the Suzuki Method, specific information about the way our school operates, and ways to help motivate your child and keep them excited about learning.  One parent from each newly enrolled family must take the Parent Orientation class.

Keyboard Class - new students will learn keyboard skills with early Suzuki pieces, while the parent learns to play beginning violin, home teaching and motivation techniques and Suzuki philosophy in the Parent Orientation Class. This class is fun and excellent (along with listening practices) for helping develop ears that can recognize accurate intonation when learning to play the violin. Students will need at least a 2-octave portable keyboard.

Kodaly - this is a music and movement class designed to help develop pitch and rhythm skills. The class also functions as a lead in to music reading, which starts in Book 2.

Beginning Music Reading Level 1 -  this is class is suited to students who are finishing Book 1 students who do not have any or much music reading experience.  Students will learn advanced level Kodaly skills as well as beginning music reading skills.

Music Reading Level 2 - for Book 2 and 3 students.  The Sunday classes will use the Essential Elements Book 1 and also the Kidfiddle Book.  Each student will need both of these books plus a simple keyboard and a music stand.

Music Reading Level 3 - for Book 2 - 4 students who are experienced readers and Book 4 people who would like music reading rather than, or perhaps in addition to, the duets and trios in the adjacent Sunday violin class taught by Kari Gunderson.  We'll use Essential Elements Book 2 the My Trio book and handouts of scales and folk and jazz duets.  You'll also need a simple keyboard and a music stand.

Book 1 (including beginners through the completion of Book 1) - this group will be divided into several sub-groups depending upon the number of students and skill levels. Beginners and Pre-Twinklers learn the basics of violin technique, listening skills and the preparatory pieces to the Twinkle Variations. Beginning with the Twinkles, all Book 1 students will be learning careful, high-quality Suzuki playing techniques, good work habits, memory, rhythm and pitch skills, and a love of performing, while progressing through and reviewing Book 1 repertoire. Book 1 students also take Kodaly classes.

Book 2 and 3 - Taught by Kari Gunderson on Sundays, students will be learning careful, high-quality Suzuki playing techniques, good work habits, memory, rhythm and pitch skills, vibrato, and a love of performing, while reviewing Suzuki Book 2 and 3 repertoire.  Music Reading for Book 2 and 3 students will be part of the class.  The Sunday class will use Essential Elements Book 1 and also the My Trio Book.  Each student will need both of these books plus a simple keyboard and a music stand.

Book 1 and Extended Technique Class (for students in Books 1 through 3) Taught by Alison Joyner on Tuesday evenings, at her home, 2852 Hollow Cove Ct., Columbus.  An Alternative weekday class for students in Books 1 - 3.  This one-hour class will focus on the Book 1 repertoire.  Book 2 and 3 students will explore various advanced techniques and also chamber music and sight-reading from the My Trio book.  This class will be tailored to individual abilities and needs and will be tier-based on each students' development.

Book 4 (and up) Class Options:

Sunday Violin and Chamber Music Class (for students in Book 4 and above) (for students in Book 4 and above) Sunday afternoons, led by Kari Gunderson.  We'll preview and review Suzuki pieces and virtuoso pieces from Solos for Young Violinist by Barbara Barber, learn scales and keys and spiccato, and then break into smaller groups for duets and trios.

Advanced Technique Classes (for students in Book 4 and above) - this class will be taught by Kari Gunderson on Wednesdays in Clintonville at the Gunderson home, from 6:30 - 7:30 for students in Books 4, 7:00 - 8:00 for students in Books 5 through 8.  Students in Books 5 and up will use the Solos for Young Violinists Book 3 and the Hrimaly Scale book.
