Adrien McGuire, Kodály/Keyboard Instructor

Adrien holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Bowling Green State University and a Masters in Music Education with a specialization in Kodaly from Capital University. She has extensive experience in teaching piano, voice and choral music as well as her most recent full time position as a general music specialist for Reynoldsburg City Schools. (French Run Elementary) Adrien currently teaches a variety of group classes for the Suzuki Violin School of Columbus Worthington ranging from Kodaly, to Keyboard and Music Reading Techniques. Adrien currently lives in Worthington, Ohio with her husband Mike and two young sons, Thomas and J.T.

 

 


 

Alison Joyner, Private/Group Instructor

Alie Joyner was born and raised in Columbus, Ohio and actually begin studying violin at the age of two right here at the Suzuki Violin School of Columbus, under violinist and teacher Joan Griffing (Nicholas). She graduated from Suzuki at age 9 and went on to study with many renowned teachers including Mark Rush, Anna Svirsky and Charles Wetherbee. While pursuing her undergrad in violin performance at the University of Arizona, Alie taught in the Arizona String Project and the Tucson Academy of Music. After completing her degree, Alie lived and performed in cities such as Las Vegas and San Francisco before returning to her hometown. Currently, Alie is the Lead Teacher for The Suzuki Violin School of Columbus. In addition to teaching, she is very active in performing and plays regularly with Punch The Monkey (an irish fiddle band) and Jacked Up, a renowned country band out of Columbus Ohio. Alie has shared the stage with country legends such as Tracy Byrd and Linda Ronstadt and is currently performing alongside Nashville's hottest new artists like Craig Morgan, Chris Cagle, Luke Bryan, Billy Currington and Danielle Peck.

 

 


 

Elizabeth Schulte, Private Instructor

Elizabeth has a Master of Music degree in violin performance and a Master of Arts degree in string pedagogy from The Ohio State University, where she was a Graduate Teaching Assistant with the Pre-College Strings Program and a member of the graduate string quartet. Mrs. Schulte has a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Northwestern College in St. Paul, Minnesota, where she was concertmaster of the Chamber Orchestra, and appeared with the orchestra several times as a soloist. Her love for teaching developed as she coordinated a string program for young students at the college’s Academy of Music.

Prior to moving to Columbus, Mrs. Schulte taught elementary, middle school and high school orchestra for the Robbinsdale School District (Minneapolis, MN) for seven years, where her orchestras received statewide recognition. Mrs. Schulte was certified by the Minnesota State High School League as an adjudicator for string and orchestra events. She was a conductor with the Greater Twin Cities Youth Symphonies Summer Orchestra Program. Active as a violinist, she also was a member of Allegro Sinfonia and the Resound String Quartet. While in Columbus, she was a member of the Columbus Bach Ensemble for five years.

Mrs. Schulte is the founding conductor for the Columbus Symphony Youth Orchestras Junior Strings, which she has directed for the past four years. Having been on the faculty of the Suzuki Violin School of Columbus/Worthington for five years, Mrs. Schulte has done Books 1-4 Suzuki Teacher Training at Capital Suzuki Institute and Ithaca College and a Book 5-8 overview course with John Kendall in Washington D.C. She is a member of the Columbus Music Teachers’ Association, a freelance violinist in the area, a pianist at her church, and serves as a clinician and adjudicator at schools and events in Central Ohio. She lives in Hilliard with her husband Dave, 5-year-old Isaac and 2-year-old twins, Joseph and Rachel.

 

 


 

Erica Donahoe, Private Instructor

Erica Donahoe was born and raised in Ann Arbor, Michigan and began Suzuki violin at the age of three with violinist and teacher Martha Froseth. Erica went on to study with Geri Arnold, and eventually Andrew Jennings, faculty at the University of Michigan School of Music. Upon graduating from high school, Erica moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado, where she attended and graduated from the United States Air Force Academy. Erica spent several years as an Air Force Officer and then another couple years as a Project Manager in the civilian sector. During that time Erica continued to pursue her love of music, performing with the Pikes Peak Philharmonic, the MacClean Virginia Symphony Orchestra, and the Miami Valley Symphony Orchestra.

Erica recently decided to pursue music as a full time career and is studying with violinist and professor Dr. Kia-Hui Tan at The Ohio State University. Erica performs locally with the Central Ohio Symphony Orchestra, The Sonora Trio, and is a member of Women in Music-Columbus. Erica loves American and Irish fiddling as well and performs wth several local bands.

 

 


 

Kari Gunderson, Private/Group Instructor

Kari has a Bachelor's degree from Oberlin College and her Doctor of Musical Arts from Indiana University. She has taught performance and string teacher training at Florida State University, Ohio State University, and Ohio Wesleyan. She's performed in Pro Musica Chamber Orchestra, Opera Columbus, Ballet Met, and for such popular stars as Julie Andrews and Natalie Cole.

A co-founder of the Suzuki Association of Ohio, she's taught at Suzuki regional institutes and served as newsletter editor for the state organization. Twice she's served as string chair for the Ohio Music Teachers Association, and she's written many articles for the Suzuki Association of the Americas journal and other publications.

She's proud of her many former students who bring news of their impressive awards and positions along with humor and news of their lives. Kari loves guiding committed families into learning with self-discipline, joy, and creativity.

 


 

Susan Walsh, Private Instructor

Susan is a violinist, violist, cellist, and pianist. She began piano study at age three with her mother, who was a piano teacher. Her mother also encouraged Susan in her string studies, and for a two-year period when the family lived in Hugo, Oklahoma, this dedicated parent drove Susan to violin lessons in Texarkana, Texas, every other Saturday--a round trip of 240 miles!

Susan went to the University of Michigan as a viola major, and later studied cello at the Cleveland Institute of Music. She studied chamber music with the Guarneri String Quartet at the State University of New York at Binghamton, and has participated in chamber music workshops at Interlochen with the Cleveland Quartet, the Concord Quartet, and the Manhattan String Quartet.

Susan is a registered violin teacher with the Suzuki Association of the Americas. Besides teaching violin, viola, cello, and piano, Susan performs with Class Acts ensembles, the Prestige Trio, the Brighton Trio, and the Prestige Cello Duo. As a studio musician, she has performed string tracks on a number of recordings.

Susan has also produced a CD of her own original piano music, "Reflections."
